Intense pulsed light, (IPL)

Intense pulsed light, commonly abbreviated as IPL, is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic uses including hair removal, photo rejuvenation, and treatment of dermatological diseases.

Intense Pulsed Light is the most recent solution to takle the problem of unwanted hair.  Our Clients are always looking for a way to get great results, whilst reducing the amount of time and money spent on hair removal.  IPL offers you a way to permanently reduce your hair regrowth at very affordable prices.

Benefits of IPL:

It does not cause the irritation that other hair removal methods may cause.

Larger areas may be treated at one time than with electrolysis, waxing or tweezing.

It combines the speed of shaving with the lasting results promised by electrolysis.

It is effective on almost any area of the body where hair-free skin is desired.

It leaves the skin in the treated areas feeling smoother and younger.

How it works:

Broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin, targeting melanin. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root). The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located. As the light is absorbed the bulb and most of the hair shaft are heated, destroying the hair-producing papilla.

Micro-needling - Derma Pen

Dermapen is the latest innovation in skin needling and collagen induction therapy and is quickly becoming the optimal choice in skin rejuvenation due to its low risk profile and minimal downtime. The Dermapen has become the new industry standard for skin needling, providing excellent results. This revolutionary device is simple, yet powerful with many distinct advantages over dermal rollers, taking skin needling treatment to new heights.

The Dermapen is very safe and sterile when performed by a trained practitioner and has minimal downtime. Disposable needles are used to eliminate the risk of cross contamination, whilst the adjustable needle depths allow for a treatment tailored to your individual needs. The Dermapen also has the advantage of being able to effectively treat hard to reach places (e.g. around the eyes, nose and lips). Due to this vertical feature, the Dermapen is great for treating atrophic and surgical scars because of its ability to effectively penetrate and break down scar tissue.

The Dermapen treatments use a precise needling technique that results in increased collagen and elastin in the treated area. You can expect smoother skin that looks refreshed, restored and youthful. The treatment is performed using a rich dose of hyaluronic acid in combination with human derived growth factors that deeply penetrate into the skin’s dermal layer, further supporting collagen and elastin production.

Dermapen promotes scar-less healing and natural collagen reproduction, similar to fractional laser treatments and laser resurfacing, but without the side effects and downtime. The mechanism of injury is a natural process, which makes Dermapen an holistic approach to skin rejuvenation therapy.

Dermapen is one of the most advanced skin rejuvenation therapies available today for the treatment of:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • UV damaged skin
  • Overall skin rejuvenation
  • Large pores Scars (acne, surgical and burns)
  • Stretch marks
  • Smoker’s lines around the lips
  • Treatment Frequency

Most people will need a series of 3-6 treatments depending on what is being treated and the desired outcome. The treatments are spaced at 4-6 week intervals depending on the intensity of the treatment performed. Your skin practitioner will help you determine a suitable treatment program. The SKN Spin is highly recommended for use on a weekly basis to maintain the results achieved.

Acne and Surgical Scars

The Dermapen treatment improves the appearance of acne and surgical scars. The micro needles of the Dermapen cause new collagen and elastin to be generated and deposited in the areas of the scar. The physical nature of skin needling breaks up this fibrous and uneven scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new tissue. Plus, there is the added benefit of new capillary growth, which improves the blood supply to the area providing a healthy foundation for the new skin. Currently there are ablative and non-ablative treatments offered which can damage the epidermis and evaporate the skin, leading to a thinner epidermis. The Dermapen keeps the integrity of the epidermis intact, which quickens healing time and causes less pain.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

As we age, the natural production of collagen and elastin diminishes, which leads to wrinkles, and sagging. Wrinkling in the skin is also caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors. The Dermapen promotes a process of new skin growth through the science of collagen induction therapy. The most effective way to stimulate or “induce” new skin safely and effectively is by micro-needling with the Dermapen.

Skin Rejuvenation

Dermapen treatments not only target specific imperfections but also provide an overall rejuvenation of the skin. The needling process improves micro-circulation in conjunction with collagen and elastin formation beneath the skin to thicken the dermis, reducing wrinkles. You will notice improved skin texture and more even skin tone as well as an overall brightness to your skin. Undergoing a series of Dermapen treatments will not only provide visible results to the entire appearance of your skin, but it will slow down the signs of aging.

Minimize Pore Size

The Dermapen treatments will result in a more refined appearance of the pores. There are two main culprits that contribute to the appearance of enlarged pores. The first is congested skin. When your pores are congested, this will increase their appearance. Secondly, pores will appear larger as our skin begins to age and the elasticity of our skin decreases. The Dermapen treatments stimulate collagen and elastin, which results in firming of the skin, thereby reducing the appearance of large pores.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a form of scarring on the skin with an off-color hue. They are caused by tearing of the dermis, and over time can diminish, but will not disappear completely. The Dermapen treatment offers a progressive and natural solution to stretch marks. The treatment stimulates healthy collagen and elastin production in the deeper skin layer to repair the damaged areas with the release of growth factors and stimulation of fibroblasts. Everyone will experience improvement in the appearance of their stretch marks with the Dermapen, but results are individual and depend on the severity, age and extent of the stretch marks. Early red stretch marks will show the most improvement.

Mesopeel Treatment

Chemical peeling is one of the oldest skin rejuvenation techniques in the book. Ameson Mesopeel is a professional chemical peeling system based on organic acids, aimed at rejuvenating the skin and making it glowing, bright and soft. Peels can be used to treat a wide variety of skin concerns on the face and body including: •

  • Pigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Acne Scarring
  • Fine Lines And Wrinkles
  • Dull Complexion
  • Skin Redness

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peeling is a way of regenerating the skin by removing the dead cells from the skin’s surface to reveal new, healthy cells underneath. Different types of peeling agents work in different ways but the principle is the same. A peeling solution is applied to the skin in order to cause an exfoliation effect. A course of peels can help return the skin cell turnover function to normal and leave the skin looking fresher and more radiant while improving common skin concerns such as acne, pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles.

Am I suitable for this treatment?

Chemical peels are very diverse and can be used to treat a wide variety of skin concerns. If you want to improve the texture and tone of your skin and address problems such as pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne or acne scarring then a course of peels could be right for you. You will need to have a consultation to see if you are suitable for the procedure.

Does it hurt?

A stinging, prickly or itching sensation is felt by most individuals.  However depending on your skin's sensitivity levels you may experience no irritation at all.

How long does it take?

A peel treatment usually takes less than half an hour. The peeling solution itself is only left on the skin for a couple of minutes before it is neutralized and removed.

Is there any downtime/recovery time?

After a peel your skin can feel tight and red, almost like a mild sunburn. You may also expertise dryness and flaking of the skin. Any down time will relate to how strong the peel is you have had. Very mild, superficial peels have no downtime at all while stronger peels may have more side effects, which can last up to a week, while the old layer of dead skin falls away.

Sun protection is strongly recommended after treatments and should not be carried out in summer months.

What kind of results can I expect?

Peeling is a very effective method of skin rejuvenation. A course of peels can improve overall skin health, brighten the complexion and leave skin glowing. Fine lines and wrinkles can be reduced, pigmentation can be diminished and acne can be improved.
